Choosing and Evaluating Electronic Resources

Now that we’ve discussed evaluation, we are going to look at some examples.  The following exercises will look at some different web sites and fee-based databases.

Go to PC Magazine Online (http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag).  Choose one of the articles on the front page.

1) What is the article title?____________________________________________

2) Who is the author of the article? _____________________________________

3) When was the article written? _______________________________________
 

Go to the library home page (http://admin.nj.devry.edu/library).  Click on Library Databases.  Select ProQuest and choose “all databases."  Search for “electronic commerce” and choose an article.

1) What is the article title?____________________________________________

2) Who is the author of the article? _____________________________________

3) When was the article written? _______________________________________
 

Using a search engine (such as Infoseek or Metacrawler), search for “electronic commerce”.

1) What is the article/page title?___________________________________________

2) Who is the author of the article/page?_____________________________________

3) When was the article/page written?_____________________________
 

Compare the three resources.

1) Which resource gave you the most quality information?  _______________________

2) Do you feel evaluating resources using the techniques we've discussed will help you to choose quality web, database, and print resources?       Yes_____        No_____
